What to Wear for Senior Photos
One of the most common questions I get from seniors and parents is, "What should I wear for my senior photos?" The good news is there isn't one right answer. The best outfits are the ones that make you feel confident and comfortable while reflecting your personality.
Bring Variety
I recommend bringing 2-4 outfits that give your gallery a variety of looks. Consider including:
- A casual everyday outfit
- A dressier outfit
- Something that reflects your hobbies, sport, or personality
- A school or college shirt if desired
Having a few options allows us to create a gallery that feels unique and gives you plenty of variety.
Choose Colors You Love
Solid colors and subtle patterns tend to photograph best. Earth tones, pastels, jewel tones, and classic neutrals are always great choices.
Some favorites include:
- Cream
- Sage green
- Dusty blue
- Rust
- Burgundy
- Soft pink
- Navy
Try to avoid neon colors, large logos, and graphics that can distract from your face.
Layer for More Variety
Layers add texture and dimension to photographs. Consider bringing:
- Denim jackets
- Cardigans
- Flannels
- Lightweight sweaters
- Vests
A simple layer can completely change the look of an outfit without requiring a full outfit change.
Don't Forget the Details
Small details make a big difference.
Before your session:
- Clean shoes
- Remove hair ties from your wrist
- Empty your pockets
- Steam or iron clothing if needed
- Bring any accessories you love
Consider the Season
Your clothing should complement the time of year and location.
Spring:
Light colors, florals, and soft textures.
Summer:
Bright colors, sundresses, shorts, and casual styles.
Fall:
Layers, sweaters, boots, flannels, and rich colors.
Winter:
Coats, scarves, sweaters, and neutral tones.
Be Yourself
The most important thing is choosing clothing that feels like you. Senior photos are about celebrating this season of life and capturing who you are right now. If you're comfortable and confident in what you're wearing, it will show in your photographs.
If you're unsure about your outfit choices, feel free to bring a few extra options. I'm always happy to help you decide what will photograph best.
